Last night Jacqueline and I stopped by the soft opening for Steel City Pops, the new gourmet popsicle shop located at 812 S Alamo St. The lines were out the door but that was expected when you can dip, dredge and dust your icy treats! Confused? Keep reading…

Steel City Pops features dairy based and water based popsicles that are made with 100% all natural and local ingredients. During any given time, Steel City Pop’s menu will feature 20 to 30 fruity and creamy flavors, however there’s so much more you can do to your popsicle to make it uniquely yours. First is the dipping station. For an additional $1 you can dip your pop into a variety of different chocolates (milk, dark and vanilla chocolate) – all dairy free! Next you can dredge your pop with pecans, pistachios, toasted coconut, GF chocolate crumbs or GF graham cracker crumbs. Still want more? Drizzle it up with milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate or caramel. More?! Add a final dusting of flavor – cinnamon, cocoa, nutmeg, sea salt, cayenne or espresso.

Oh, hello beautiful. I chose to fully indulge at the soft opening by ordering the buttermilk pop dipped in dark chocolate, drizzled with white chocolate and dusted with cocoa. I call it a cheesecake on a stick. Jacqueline kicked off the evening with a creamy avocado pop (see green pop below!).

While I am sometimes in the mood for a creamy pop, during hot summer months my body is craving refreshing fruit flavors. Jacqueline and I tried the blueberry basil, lavender lemonade, blood orange and cantaloupe. I dusted my cantaloupe pop with sea salt and it’s my current favorite. Mmmm, so good! I’ll most likely be dusting all flavors with sea salt.
