Lick Honest Ice Cream

It’s officially summer and with Texas heat rolling in there’s only one cure – ice cream. Luckily, The Pearl now offers a perfect spot to cool down and satisfy your sweet tooth. Working directly with local artisans and ranchers,  Lick Honest Ice Cream is serving housemade everything. From ice cream, syrups, sauces, cakes, and even down to the waffle cones. Lick puts the emphasis on ‘honest,’ all milk used in Lick’s ice cream comes from local, family-owned farms in Texas.  No preservatives, no coloring, and no additives – these flavors speak for themselves!

I stopped by Lick with my five year old son, Jude, to cool down after roaming around the city all day. I was already feeling pretty adventurous, so I wanted to branch out and try something I wouldn’t normally get. I chose Dewberry Corn Cobbler –  “dewberries baked into housemade cornmeal cobbler and crumbled into sweet cream corn ice cream.” I was expecting a mustard yellow colored ice cream, but instead was greeted with a beautiful purple and white marbled scoop of Texas. In the ice cream are small wedges of sweet cream corn cake/cobbler. I was all about it.

Surprisingly, Jude was feeling the same adventurous vibe as I was. After taste testing a couple of flavors including: Milk Chocolate, Roasted Beets & Fresh Mint (this one was neon purple by the way) & Texas Sheet Cake he decided to get a scoop of Dark Chocolate with Olive Oil & Sea Salt. I had to snatch a spoonful before he devoured it himself. The scoop offers an incredible blend of sweet, salt and smooth.

Lick also offers a variety of house favorites and seasonal flavors throughout the year including: Horchata, Too Hot Chocolate (chocolate combined with cayenne pepper, chipotle, cinnamon, and local honey), Caramel Salt Lick, Goat Cheese Thyme & Honey, Coffee with Cream, and Hill Country Honey & Vanilla Bean. Find a flavor you like? Lick sells them all by the pint for you to take home! Make sure to stop by for a scoop or two! Lick is open Sunday – Thursday 11:30 AM – 10 PM, Friday 11:30 AM – 11 PM, and Saturday 10:30 AM – 11PM.
