PinasLocas2Sometimes at night I dream about Chamoy and all of the wonderful fruits that pair with it. At Piñas Locas, located at 2413 Thousand Oaks, my dreams became a reality. The local fruteria features a Chamoy and Lucas bar where you can top your fresh fruit or mangonada with as much savory sauce as you please.

PinasLocas3Piñas Locas does not require flashy lights nor extravagant centerpieces because the fresh and natural flavors of Mexico are more than enough! Colorful signs showcasing photos of each menu items decorate the lime green walls and wooden picnic tables make up the seating area. The first item I ordered was the Loca Chamoy, a pineapple bowl overflowing with orange, watermelon and pineapple, of course. The piña also comes with lime, Lucas and Chamoy on the side. If you’re like me and your tongue craves more than the average amount of Chamoy, head over to the Chamoy and Lucas bar.

PinasLocasAfter the piña was devoured, I indulged in a traditional corn cup with extra lime. Piñas Locas corn in a cup amps up the spiciness level so make sure to have a cup or water or a piña coloda to wash it down. For dessert, I ordered strawberries and cream. Other items include shaved ice, chicharrón preparado and intense mangonadas. Watching your Chamoy intake? Order the Loca Light with greek yogurt, granola, shredded coconut and an abundance of fruit.
