The Blue Star Arts Complex is an area of San Antonio that I feel truly offers something for all types of people. Whether you like to spend your time looking at new art installations, listening to music, or grabbing a drink with friends, you can find it in this block of shops. If you need more of an incentive, here are some of the events coming up this August.

For the Art Lovers: August 4th at 6 p.m. through August 6th at 9 p.m., a new art installation called “Splitsplice” will be at 112 Blue Star. The artist, Kristen Reynolds, says the viewers will see “Faux finishes, like painted wood-grain, and colorful silkscreened patterns inspired by Japanese origami paper, transform materials into playful exaggerations and heighten the tension between the evident and the artificial”.

For the Music Enthusiasts: On August 5th from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. there will be two bands, King Pelican and Garrett T. Capps Los Lonely Hipsters, playing a FREE concert at The Brick. Can’t make it? The Brick has a free concert every First Friday, so you can try again on September 2nd. RSVP and find out more here.

For the “Professional” Cocktail Tasters: If you haven’t been to Bar 1919 yet, I would recommend visiting as soon as you are able, but to add to the experience, consider going on August 18th. Starting at 7 p.m., the bar is having a monthly tasting of the new drinks that are coming to the menu and want you to join! Stop by or call (210.227.1420) to reserve you seat.

For the Foodies: While not actually an event, I thought I should let everyone know about the happy hour at Halcyon. From 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday Halcyon offers $2 off Texas beer and Spirits, as well as $5 hummus plates, the mac attack (pepper jack cream and slow roasted pulled pork), and spinach artichoke dip.
