South Alamode Panini & GelatoIn May 2015, the Twenty SA team accepted the daunting task to try out numerous gelato flavors from À La Mode Gelato. Since its brick and mortar opening, the name has changed to include a new favorite – paninis.

South Alamode Panini & GelatoSouth Alamode Panini and Gelato Company, located at 1420 S. Alamo in the Blue Star Arts Complex, has expanded its menu to include delicious tasting paninis. The husband and wife team, Josh Biffle and Diletta Gallorini, not only provide a traditional take on Italian favorites, but their passion for each other and their business shines through the entire shop. Also, the local art on the walls make for great talking points. Gelato, paninis and great art?! All right, enough about this dynamic love duo, let’s get to the food!

South Alamode Panini and Gelato CompanyThe Havanese panini, South Alamode Panini and Gelato Company’s version of a Cuban, comes with prosciutto cotto, porchetta, fontina, pickles and stone ground mustard. Another favorite is the Sotto Bosco with truffle sauce from Italy, oven-roasted mushrooms, 18-month aged prosciutto, smoked mozzarella and arugula. If you’re planning on walking along the River Walk after lunch, try the Mela Dai which is on the lighter side of the menu. The panini features grilled, Granny Smith apple slices, roasted turkey breast and brie. Simple three ingredients but the flavor combination comes out amazing.

Gelato cups All of the gelato is made fresh daily, with locally-sourced ingredients. Staple flavors are dark chocolate sorbet, salted chocolate with toasted almond and caramel (the most popular flavor), goat cheese with strawberries and macadamia nuts, vanilla bean bourbon, and Mexican vanilla. Now that it’s warming up, the husband and wife team are churning up more sorbets with fresh fruit.

South Alamode Panini and Gelato Company is open Wednesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
