Did you know San Antonio is home to a center that focuses on balancing all aspects of life with mindful action? The San Antonio Yoga Center, located past Bandera + 1604 at 11011 Shaenfield Road, features specialty classes, workshops, and private and semi-private yoga classes. Jacqueline and I attended a Lunar Workshop at the end of July with Nicole Pippin, a local hatha yoga and kundalini yoga teacher.

The world slowed down walking onto the yoga center grounds. The breeze was light and green grass, fresh flowers and a gorgeous, elevated yoga studio surrounded us. The interior of the yoga center mirrored the calm atmosphere outside.

san-antonio-yoga-center-3We began the class with introductions, something I truly enjoyed because it instantly connected the class and we were no longer merely strangers sitting on colored yoga mats. Kundalini yoga differs from popular hatha yoga by placing a higher emphasis on meditation and chanting. Kundalini yoga is an uplifting blend of spiritual and physical practice which incorporates movement, dynamic breathing techniques, meditation, and the chanting of mantras. The ultimate goal of kundalini yoga is to build physical vitality and increase consciousness.

san-antonio-yoga-center-2Kundalini yoga also stems from the idea that latent female energy lies coiled at the base of the spine. During our lunar workshop we discussed the moon cycles, a woman’s moon center (woman have 11 centers while men have one) and meditation to balance the moon centers. Overall, the class was gently encouraging us to come into ourselves and find our eternal and divine wisdom.
