When we found out Rancho Pillow existed, Jacqueline and I made plans to take the two-hour trip to Round Top, TX to experience the retreat that is described as a whimsical wonderland. Sounds like a dream and I won’t make you wait until the end – it was a dream.

There are no specific words to describe walking onto the Rancho Pillow property because your eyes are pulled in so many directions that you don’t know whether to run for the distant bathhouse or walk inside one of the several doors in front of you. Although there are no words to describe the beginning, there is a photo. Jacqueline and I gazing from the second story window of the three-story barn which is the communal area at Rancho. As you can see, Rancho Pillow’s decor is overwhelmingly beautiful and no corner is bare. Each time you take a step you enter a new story.

Rancho Pillow rests on a 20-acre compound with numerous choices for sleeping arrangements. Jacqueline and I, once again, opted for The Teepee. We currently have a bit of an obsession with staying at modernized, beautifully crafted teepees.

This wasn’t roughing it in the least bit – the teepee features air-conditioning, a king-sized bed, a vintage red velvet couch and handpainted imagery of the Four Elements tattooed on the sheetrocked walls. The best part? Having the Rancho’s Bathhouse just a few steps. If you’re an odd one and prefer showering and going to the bathroom inside a house instead of outdoors, head to the Barn where you’ll find three fully functional bathrooms and a couple showers. However, I urge you to try a shower or bath in one of their gorgeous claw foot tubs at least once during your stay! There’s nothing like staring at the sky while water rushes over your body.

After getting situated in our teepee, Jacqueline and I met up with our travel partner, photographer and friend, Jessica! We spend the next couple hours getting creative with the numerous instruments available to you inside the Barn and fully exploring each of the three stories.

Along with providing you with an escape from the fast paced world of San Antonio, Rancho Pillow features many amenities to keep you chill throughout your stay. We loved their heated salt water wading pool, fire pit surrounded by chairs and benches, and having fresh coffee readily available in the morning. You can never forget that coffee! I believe I had one of my best moments when I woke up to fog everywhere at 7:30 a.m. and sat on the Barn porch and watched the fog fade with a warm cup of coffee on my lap.
