The merging of gin and juice is often the basis of a good cocktail. In San Antonio’s case, Seersucker Gin adds it right within the bottles of their Southern Style Lemonade and Limeade varieties. As the fastest growing craft-gin brand in the United States and the only Southern Style Gin in the world, Seersucker is a San Antonio gem in itself. With the opening of the 5,000 square-foot Seersucker Distillery on 8501 Cover Road, you’re invited to tour the facilities, sample cocktails or hang out on The Grand Lawn.

Azar Family Brands’ Seersucker Southern Style Gin is the only gin made in San Antonio, Texas. See the process from start to finish at the distillery when you take a self-guided tour. Venture from the Tasting Room towards the beautifully-branded blue and white striped tanks; here you’ll find signs explaining the three-step process. The gin is distilled in very small batches to insure quality product and taste, thanks to the hand-hammered European copper pot lovingly named “Betty.”

Betty is the largest hand-hammered copper pot still in the state of Texas. Custom-made in Germany, she makes all the difference. The Seersucker taste is cleaner and better through evaporation and re-condensation for slow distillation.

At the end of the process, Seersucker Southern Style Gin, Southern Style Lemonade, Limeade or Cinco Vodka is either bottled by hand in the next room or sent directly to the Tasting Room’s bar through overhead pipes.

By the end of the tour you’ll have a greater appreciation for gin and the San Antonio-made spirit. So, head over to the bar an order a ready-for-summer cocktail off their menu! Unlike standard “dry” gins, Sersucker uses lighter levels of juniper with hints of citrus, honey and mint.

Cocktail in hand, chill out on their brand-new Grand Lawn. Lounge on a beanbag, play corn hole or bocce ball. There is even a special space designated for food trucks and an outdoor video screen for special events. The Seersucker Distillery proved it’s a great place to drink and hang with friends at their recent “Cinco de Derby” party.
