From happy hour bites to shared plates – Chisme, the newest restaurant to hit the St. Mary’s strip, is giving San Antonio something to talk about.

Alyssa and I started out with a few cocktails – our personal favorites were the Chismosa, Chisme’s take on a pina colada, and the agua fresca.

While sipping our drinks (and ordering a few more) we snacked on complimentary chips, salsa and queso. You heard that right, during happy hour Chisme serves up free queso with any HH drink purchase!

We couldn’t quite decide between both ordering tacos or sharing a large plate, so naturally we went with both. Alyssa ordered the Mexican cheeseburger tacos, which live up to their name. These tacos are filled with with a hamburger patty and topped with queso, guacamole and jalapeños. I went with the double avocado taco. This guac-ception was a one-of-a-kind taco containing guacamole, fried avocado and cotija.

Chisme took us by surprise with its platos grandes. We shared the Cochinita Pibil, a Yucatan-style smoked pork shoulder, gulf salsa, pickled red onions served with corn and flour tortillas. We carefully cut the cochinita pibil and smothered it in more sauce and red onions before placing it in between a warm tortilla. If you find yourself in the same dilemma Alyssa and I faced in the beginning, go with the cochinita pibil!
