This summer I went on my first trip out of the United States to Belize. Located on the Eastern Coast of Central America, the country is a great vacation spot whether you like hiking through the rainforest or laying on the beach. So, incase you are planning a trip sometime soon or just daydreaming about a getaway, here is a breakdown of what we did and where we stayed.

Chaa CreekWe spent our first few days in the rainforest at Chaa Creek, located near a town called San Ignacio. Staying at Chaa Creek was such a high of the experience, located on a 400 acre nature reserve. Booking your excursions with the resort means that transportation and guides are taken care of, and they literally had some of the nicest people I have ever met! They also provided a complimentary breakfast each morning that started with fresh-squeezed orange juice. Can we talk about never wanting to leave a place?

What we did: Staying in the rainforest meant having a multitude of options for daily excursions. We decided to take a tour of Mayan ruins, ziplined above the canopies, went cave tubing, wandered through the town, and went on a variety of hikes. You could also choose from helicopter tours, horseback riding, mountain biking, and more.

Mayan RuinsWe then took a small 10 seater plane to San Pedro Island, where we stayed at The Phoenix Hotel. You are sure to find something to do onsight with a complimentary happy hour from 5 to 6 p.m. every day on the rooftop bar, free yoga, wine tasting, painting classes, and more. Both the Phoenix and Chaa Creek were focused on providing great service and therefore limited the amount of guests allowed, which made the experience more personal.

What we did: This town is nicknamed golf cart city because that is all anyone drives, so it is definitely fun to tour the island that way. However, we spent the majority of our time on the water with a booze cruise and snorkeling. Snorkeling was amazing because not only were we able to see a variety of coral, but we also swam with everything from turtles to sharks.

If you are visiting soon, I hope you love it as much as I did.
